I saw my first robin of the season this morning. That means Spring is around the corner, right? I also heard the most gawd awful racket and couldn't figure out if it was a bird or a crying puppy.
My friend, Marion, who is British but lived in Belgium for 15 years prior to meeting and marrying an American working for NATO and moving to the U.S., is on her way to England this morning to visit her mother and then on to Belgium next week to see friends. She has lived an interesting life. She's got a gift for storytelling and I love hearing about her bohemian years in Belgium. Last year when she made the trip she brought me back the most darling Belgian chocolates. They were in the shapes of chicks and bunnies and were so cute I didn't want to eat them, but their chocolaty goodness wore me down. They were delicious. She'll be repeating the goodness this year too.
One of these days when I get on my feet I am going to go to Belgium with her to visit her old haunts. She says I should be prepared to eat whether I am hungry or not when visiting her friends since it's an insult not to partake. I love food but I am not a big eater. I also hear I may spend the whole trip with a hangover. At least I won't be drinking on an empty stomach. I hope her gypsy musician friends are still around if the trip ever happens.
It would be fun to go somewhere and be a completely different person than I am here.
Or be the person I am on the inside; the one only my dog knows, as opposed to the one I show to the world. haha That's a scary thought.
There are patches in my yard that already need to be mowed. That's the only part of summer I dread. I like messing with plants and flowers but mowing gets old quickly.
There are a couple of raised beds in the back yard where I hope to have a few vegetables if I can get rid of the tangle of neglect that's in them now.
Grandson #1 and his basketball team have won all but one game and have one last game next weekend. He'll be playing baseball for the first time this spring/summer. His sporting events give me something to do on the weekends. The only problem is I have to look at the ex since he attends too. It would be easier if I never had to look at him again.
I wonder what we're in for storm-wise this summer. It's almost as if Mother Nature is exacting vengeance on the world the last few years with earthquakes and tsunamis and blizzards and droughts and floods. I heard there was another earthquake of 4.4 magnitude Saturday in Oklahoma.
Enough palavering.
