“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
C.S. Lewis

There is an old saying that "mankind will survive everything done in the name of evil but God help us from everything done in the name of good". Although, sometimes we throw the baby out with the bath water by lumping those who are actually doing good in with the phonies.
C.S. Lewis is my all-time favorite writer....his words are magic.
When I read that I was thinking of how our government has gone into other countries in the name of democracy when the people may have been better off under their "robber barons."
Me too.
There really is nothing quite as barbaric as the things people have done in the name of "the best interest" of others.
Think of all the people who were tortured and murdered, during the Catholic Inquisition and Protestant Reformation, in an attempt to save their souls.
